“Stick-to-itiveness” ~ aka: Perseverance
Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! I started the first of a three day show today, and I’m totally exhausted….all those bubbles I sold! I guess that’s good in one sense, but even though it was a profitable day, I am weary!! Aaaah, nothing a good night’s sleep won’t cure! Anyway, this is going to be short….tomorrow morning begins at 4:00AM, and won’t end until 6:00PM! During my day, I was thinking about “perseverance”, how vital it is to our spiritual growth to persevere in our faith! I found a few quotes on the subject that I’d like to share….some great nuggets of thought here!
“Perseverance”
Perseverance and failure cannot coexist.
Failure happens when you quit.
When all is said and done, perseverance,
commonly referred to as “stick-to-itiveness,”
is the ultimate success insurance.
Nothing can take its place. The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from a strong will,
and the other from a strong won’t. ~Henry Ward BeecherThe road to success is dotted with many tempting parking places. ~Author Unknown
When the world says, “Give up,”
Hope whispers, “Try it one more time.”
~Author UnknownDon’t be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs.
Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger.
If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves. ~Dale CarnegieNobody trips over mountains. It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble.
Pass all the pebbles in your path and you will find you have crossed the mountain. ~Author UnknownWhen you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on. ~Franklin D. Roosevelt
Consider the postage stamp:
its usefulness consists in the ability to stick to one thing till it gets there. ~Josh BillingsThe greatest oak was once a little nut who held its ground. ~Author Unknown
If one dream should fall and break into a thousand pieces,
never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again.
~Flavia WeednHe conquers who endures. ~Persius
Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired
of doing the hard work you already did. ~Newt GingrichThe race is not always to the swift, but to those who keep on running.
~Author Unknown, in reference to Ecclesiastes 9:11…
“I returned, and saw under the sun,
that the race is not to the swift,
nor the battle to the strong,
neither yet bread to the wise,
nor yet riches to men of understanding,
nor yet favour to men of skill;
but time and chance happeneth to them all.”You can’t go through life quitting everything.
If you’re going to achieve anything, you’ve got to stick with something. It’s not that I’m so smart,
it’s just that I stay with problems longer. ~Albert EinsteinPerseverance is not a long race;
it is many short races one after another. ~Walter ElliottBut the moment you turn a corner you see another straight stretch ahead
and there comes some further challenge to your ambition. ~Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.Don’t be discouraged.
It’s often the last key in the bunch that opens the lock. ~Author UnknownThe great majority of men are bundles of beginnings. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Saints are sinners who kept on going. ~Robert Louis Stevenson
If we are facing in the right direction,
all we have to do is keep on walking.I may not be there yet,
but I’m closer than I was yesterday. ~Author UnknownKeep on going, and the chances are that you will stumble on something,
perhaps when you are least expecting it.
I never heard of anyone ever stumbling on something sitting down. ~Charles F. KetteringOur greatest glory is not in never failing,
but in rising up every time we fail. ~Ralph Waldo EmersonProblems are not stop signs,
they are guidelines. ~Robert SchullerVitality shows in not only the ability to persist
but the ability to start over. ~F. Scott FitzgeraldWith ordinary talent and extraordinary perseverance,
all things are attainable. ~Thomas Foxwell BuxtonWhen your dreams turn to dust, vacuum. ~Author Unknown
Most people never run far enough on their first wind
to find out they’ve got a second. ~William JamesDifficult things take a long time,
impossible things a little longer.Don’t let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it.
The time will pass anyway; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use.
~Earl NightingaleSuccess seems to be largely a matter of hanging on
after others have let go. ~William FeatherBig shots are only little shots who keep shooting. ~Christopher Morley
Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock,
perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it.
Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two,
and I know it was not the last blow that did it,
but all that had gone before. ~Jacob A. RiisSo today, be persistant in your perseverance, whatever your task…persevere in your faith…
you just never know the blessing you’ll find when you stick-to-it!
“Being confident of this very thing,
that he which hath begun a good work in you
will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6)
I’ll be back around very soon!
Have a Happy St.Patty’s Day, and a wonderful blessed weekend!
Hugs,
~ Deborah <><
