    ~ Perfect Peace ~

There once was a King who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace.  Many artists tried.  The King looked at all the pictures, but there were only two he really liked and he had to choose between them.

One picture was of a calm lake.  The lake was a perfect mirror for peaceful towering mountains were all around it.  Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds.  All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace.

The other picture had mountains too.  But these were rugged and bare.  Above was an angry sky from which rain fell, in which lightening played.  Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall.  This did not look peaceful at all.

But when the King looked, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock.  In the bush a mother bird had built her nest.  There, in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest … perfect peace.

Which picture do you think won the prize?

The King chose the second picture.

    Do you know why?

“Because,” explained the King, “peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work.  Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart.  That is the real meaning of peace.”

“I have told you all this so that you may have ‘peace’ in me.
Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.
But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” -  John 16:33 (NLT)

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee.” – Isaiah 26:3

    MLeaf2 Peace In the Storm

Life can seem unbearable at times.  Physical pain, difficult decisions, financial hardships, the death of a loved one, or shattered dreams threaten to engulf us.  We become fearful and perplexed.  Plagued by doubts, we may even find it difficult to pray.
Those of us who know the Lord through personal faith in Christ have in Him a calm retreat in the storms of life, even while the howling winds of trial are sweeping over us.  We can experience peace of mind and calmness of spirit.
Richard Fuller, a 19th-century minister, told of an old seaman who said, “In fierce storms, we must put the ship in a certain position and keep her there.”  Said Fuller, “This, Christian, is what you must do. . . . You must put your soul in one position and keep it there.  You must stay upon the Lord; and, come what may—winds, waves, cross seas, thunder, lightning, frowning rocks, roaring breakers—no matter what, you must hold fast your confidence in God’s faithfulness and His everlasting love in Christ Jesus.”
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your troubles, learn a lesson from that old sailor.  Fix your mind on the Lord. Ask for His help. Then trust Him to give you peace in your storm.  (Phil. 4:6-7). —Richard De Haan

  • “Let the peace of God rule in your hearts…” We know God gives us peace, but often we, in our flesh, just don’t feel it, do we?

I loved that story at the beginning. Very fitting description.

quote and verse

Faith expects from God what is beyond all expectation.
- Andrew Murray -

God often comes to us,
not in dramatic and the spectacular,
but in quiet, unexpected ways ...
In a still, small voice,
a gentle whisper,
God makes known His love.

In quietness and trust
is your strength.
Isaiah 30:15

Pleasure, possessions, power, and privilege are ultimately worthless in comparison to the indescribable
joy of knowing GOD!!

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him,
and He shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5,6

I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go:
I will guide thee with mine eye.
Psalm 32:8
