    UNSHAKEN IN CHRIST
Streams in the Desert ~ Mrs. Charles E. Cowman

“God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early”

    { Psalm: 46:2, 3, 5 }

“Shall not be moved” — what an inspiring declaration!  Can it be possible that we, who are so easily moved by the things of earth, can arrive at a place where nothing can upset us or disturb our calm?  Yes, it is possible; and the Apostle Paul knew it.  When he was on his way to Jerusalem where he foresaw that “bonds and afflictions” awaited him, he could say triumphantly, “But none of these things move me.”  Everything in Paul’s life and experience that could be shaken had been shaken, and he no longer counted his life, or any of life’s possessions, dear to him.  And we, if we will but let God have His way with us, may come to the same place, so that neither the fret and tear of little things of life, nor the great and heavy trials, can have power to move us from the peace that passeth understanding, which is declared to be the portion of those who have learned to rest only on God.

“Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God; and he shall go no more out.”  To be as immovable as a pillar in the house of our God, is an end for which one would gladly endure all the shakings that may be necessary to bring us there!  ~ Hannah Whitall Smith

When God is the center of a kingdom or a city, He makes it strong “like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken” {Ps. 125:1}.  And when God is the center of a soul, although disasters may crowd in on all sides and roar like the waves of the sea, there is a constant calm within.  The world can neither give nor take away this kind of peace.  What is it that causes people to shake like leaves today at the first hint of danger?  It is simply the lack of God living in their soul, and having the world in their hearts instead.  ~ R. Leighton

“They that trust in the Lord shall be as Mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth forever.”
There is a quaint old Scottish version that puts iron into our blood:

“Who sticketh to God in stable trust
As Zion’s mount he stands full just,
Which moveth no whit, nor yet doth reel,
But standeth forever as stiff as steel!”

Lord, I pray that I not be so easily moved by the things going on in my life right now … Almighty God, the Refuge of all that are distressed, grant unto us that, in all trouble of this our mortal life, we may flee to the knowledge of thy lovingkindness and tender mercy; that so, sheltering ourselves therein, the storms of life may pass over us, and not shake the peace of God that is within us. Whatsoever this life may bring us, grant that it may never take from us the full faith that Thou art our Father. Grant us Thy light, that we may have life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

quote and verse

Faith expects from God what is beyond all expectation.
- Andrew Murray -

God often comes to us,
not in dramatic and the spectacular,
but in quiet, unexpected ways ...
In a still, small voice,
a gentle whisper,
God makes known His love.

In quietness and trust
is your strength.
Isaiah 30:15

Pleasure, possessions, power, and privilege are ultimately worthless in comparison to the indescribable
joy of knowing GOD!!

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him,
and He shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5,6

I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go:
I will guide thee with mine eye.
Psalm 32:8
