    Soaked in Grace

Liquid linseed gleams in shallow puddles on the dining table.  It’s a raw rubber-wood surface that requires frequent oiling to protect it and keep up it’s appearance.  I’ve neglected the task for a few months and the wood has become dry.  Lifeless.  Dull.  One would imagine that such thirsty wood should eagerly soak up the rich liniment offered to it, but it’s not the case.  Like ground parched and drought-afflicted, the moisture sits unappreciated above, taking prolonged time to seep into pores and cracks.  Gradually, eventually, with coaxing and rubbing, the oils sink deep into our table once again, and it’s glory is restored.

And my soul has been a little parched these past few days.  Not well-watered with the Word or prayer or song or thoughts of God.  Lacking lustre.  So it should come as little surprise that when I come again to receive the enhancing work of God, I don’t absorb it as readily as such soul condition requires.  It takes time.  More of it than usual.  Time to ponder, review, confess, to purposefully look to heaven and to Christ, to wait before him.  To wait for Him to rub it in, to massage puddles of grace into my soul …

A perpetually oiled surface has no trouble receiving it’s nourishment.  And gently, through yet another picture of the everyday, I am reminded to remain ever in a state to receive.  To be constantly in the presence of God.  To cultivate a soul that through the regular applications of God is conditioned to accept all He means to impart.  I wish not to grow dim and unreceptive to the workings of God within.  I desire that this life should ever gleam as I daily, momentarily, soak in His presence.   ~ A Daily Devotion

    Today,
For what I am that I ought not to be,
    Forgive me.
For what I am not that I ought to be,
    Forgive me.

Be with my mouth in what it speaks
Be with my hands in what they do
Be with my mind in what it thinks
Be with my heart in what it feels

    Work in me
    … through me
    … for me
    … in spite of me
In the precious name of Jesus,
    Amen

  • great devotion!  I have to say those chairs at the top of the page look oh so inviting!

  • I want you to know that I very much enjoy your “wordiness!” I love the Amplified, too. I love the Bible program (E Sword) I have on my computer which allows me to switch back and forth between several versions and compare. ~~ I think there is a zoo in Ã…rhus, but we have never been. We have been to Jesperhus which has a monkey house, birds, a butterfly house and various other things of that sort along with plantings of beautiful flowers. We usually take people visiting us there if the season is right. ~~ We drove to Skive this morning to poke around, and I took the camera. Hubby and I have to get better at communicating, because often I see something I want to photograph, and he has already driven past while I am still stuttering out…. “could you stop?” :p Today the weather did not cooperate, though. It has been very windy, and storms have been blowing across all day. You get your hopes up one minute because the sky is blue and the sun is shining, and two minutes later, it is dark and raining again. ~~ The young man we are ordaining is already helping to plant a church in Skive, and he is going to be a part of our outreach to Romania as well. ~~ I ended up baking a banana cake for the cell group. At the last minute I was inspired to throw in some crushed pineapple, and it was very good! I am afraid I just cannot leave a recipe alone. I am always trying to “tweak” it! Sometimes it works, and sometimes it is a disaster!   ~~ I have been getting up TOO early lately, so I just took a bit of a nap. Hubby is taking one now. ~~ I think now I will work on my post for tomorrow. I am going to do another picture one. ~~ Glad you heard from your son! We won’t be able to talk to our kids tomorrow because of the busy day we have planned. I hope we will be able to find another day that works for them. ~~ I loved the pictures you showed us from the wedding you went to. I think you are a perfect choice for a back up! You can do it! ~~ OK, I think it’s time to stop my blabbing fingers! HUGS!

  • This brought me to tears because I have felt this way lately too . . . thank you for sharing this!

  • I love the way the Lord can use everyday things to teach us lessons, and this certainly was a beautiful example…may we ever learn to wait quietly! ~Colleen~

  • Wonderful wisdom from the Word!   How are you today, dear Deborah? Have you plans to sell soap and take pictures and make soup? ~~ I am  baking for my cell group tonight, and also for a reception after church on Sunday. We will be ordaining a wonderful young man, and it is pretty exciting! We have watched him grow up in the eight years we have lived here. I even had the privilege of singing at his wedding.  It will be a special day. ~~ I pray all is well with your world. Blessings on your day.
    Hugs from Mae

quote and verse

Faith expects from God what is beyond all expectation.
- Andrew Murray -

God often comes to us,
not in dramatic and the spectacular,
but in quiet, unexpected ways ...
In a still, small voice,
a gentle whisper,
God makes known His love.

In quietness and trust
is your strength.
Isaiah 30:15

Pleasure, possessions, power, and privilege are ultimately worthless in comparison to the indescribable
joy of knowing GOD!!

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him,
and He shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5,6

I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go:
I will guide thee with mine eye.
Psalm 32:8
