I’ve missed being on here, and checking in with you all!  Hope everyone’s had a blessed Christmas weekend!  The past few days, since hubby broke his ankle, have been busy, yet, really not!  Adjusting to the changes that things like this can bring into your life, isn’t always easy, but God’s grace is big!  We did have a quiet Christmas day here at home … made lots of phone calls to family, and friends.  We called Ian … had a good talk, and yes, it’s hard on us being away from him, but we need to realize that it’s hard on him, too, even though he may not say it … a mom can feel these things, and, he had multiple invites for Christmas dinner, which I’m glad of, so he wasn’t alone!  I do have hope we’ll be seeing him soon … I think he’s homesick for us, too!  Other than that, we shared a nice meal together, just the two of us, here.  We thought it best that we not go to my sister’s that day, because of the need to keep icing that ankle, and to keep it elevated!

On Friday, we did venture out to see Mom Betty, and O.P., along with the rest of the family, for a time of sharing, and a small meal together.  On the way off the porch, at home here that morning, and, three steps down, as he was trying to maneuver those crutches, well, hubby fell … thank the Lord, I was there to break that fall!  Foot was saved, and we didn’t get hurt, but, it sure scared me, though!  He needs to practice more … but we’ve been told that crutches are hard to get used to!  He also needs to wait for help!  Thankfully, we got there in one piece … it was different, because we’re usually at my sister-in-law’s house for Christmas, but now there’s some stipulation on Mom’s insurance that says she can’t leave the facility in order for them to cover her therapy sessions she’s going through.  So, we were in a banquet room there at the retirement home, instead of at Jeannie’s.  We still had a good time, and it was a beautiful room, but no one felt like they could lay down, or relax, and snooze after the meal, like they normally do at her house, so, it didn’t last as long as usual.  We said our goodbyes, and afterwards, we headed to my sister’s house for just a little while, since we didn’t see them on Christmas.  We played some cards, and had a good time just laughing together, then headed for home to more rest for hubby.

Saturday, was a day spent here at home … not much to speak of, really … fruit and coffee for breakfast … dinner was spaghetti and meat sauce, with a salad.  We watched a favorite movie of ours … Fiddler on the Roof.  A long movie that took up most of the afternoon.  Oh, and for more entertainment, I did let Pookie (the kitten) upstairs, for a short time, so she could get acquainted with Mooshie, (our cat) and they seemed to get along just fine … playing, and running from each other, but no outright attacks … he’s being very gentle with her … so far!  I’ll mainly keep her in the basement until they get totally acquainted, but we think they’ll do just fine.

Sunday, we went to church (and hubby did much better getting off our porch) … he said he couldn’t wait to see everyone, and he didn’t want to miss it … neither did I, and we’re so glad we went!  So many hugs, and people asking if they could do anything for us!  Someone even called to say they’d pick us up in their van and take us to church so I wouldn’t have to drive.  After a wonderful service, we were invited by our Pastor and his wife, along with another couple, to dinner.  We went and had a wonderful time of fellowship, and a great meal together.  While we were there, our Miss Elizabeth’s parents called us, and invited us over for the evening … of course, hubby wanted to go … so did I!  We had a wonderful time playing a game, and eating dinner together.  Tim, who is in Malawi, sent them cards and letters for Christmas, which we were blessed to read.  He is doing well, traveling there quite a bit, and is able to share the Lord with those in the villages that he’s visited.  I remember when he was 5 or 6 … he’d stand up with his Children’s Bible, and preach to us right out of it while standing on his couch!  He has such a heart for people to know the love of the Lord!  Miss Elizabeth is doing so much better now … she’s very happy that her hair is growing back … and fast!  Their daughter, Hannah, is just a precious young lady, and their younger son, Jonathon, has started a small home business to help raise funds for missions.  He’s selling a healthy vitamin supplement … gave a great presentation for it, and convinced us both!  I’d not heard of this one before, but it sounds like a great product!  It’s called, Mila – The Miracle Seed.  Well, he knew we weren’t able to pay for it right then, so he told us he had prayed with his dad, and wanted Lewis to have it to help in the healing of his ankle, so, he gave us a package of it!  He is such a sweet young man!  I love them all so much!  We’re going to miss them when they finally move back home in about three weeks … it’s about an hour and a half or so, south of us.  When we finally got home, around 11:00PM, we realized that maybe we’d been doing too much, too soon … his foot, and toes, were so much more swollen when we took off that boot cast … it looked like it was ready to pop … and it’s beginning to turn blue around the side where the break is.  I felt so bad!  We iced it good, and got him into bed for the night.

Yesterday, was spent just resting, (well, he did anyway) I’ve been giving him more TLC, and doing things he can’t readily do himself, and so, now, with our schedule totally changed, we’re just going with the flow of it all!  We were talking the other day, about how quick something like this can change, and affect so many things … how, instead of what we’re doing, God can have ‘other plans’ in mind for our lives.  It shows me that our lives truly aren’t our own, but His!  Lewis said that, when he fell, and when he was lying there in the rain, he looked up to the sky, and just smiled at God, and said, “whatever it takes Lord … you know what you’re doing … and you’ve got my attention!”  He’s waiting on the Lord, now … in patience, and faith, for Him to work out more of His purpose in his life!  I am blessed with a husband who has a heart that wants to follow hard after God.  And I see him growing even closer through all of this!  It’s exciting to see how God works in our lives – what He does in each one of our hearts … and the means He uses to do it!  It’s not always an easy road, but as I said earlier … God’s grace is BIG!

I will ask, if you would, to continue to pray for his healing, though … we’re going back to the orthopedic doctor on Wednesday for more x-rays … we’re praying that the bone hasn’t shifted … and if that would be the case, then he might have to have surgery to put pins in it, but we’re believing for better things!  And, also, speaking of better things … we weren’t sure exactly how God would provide for us through this, but we knew that He would … and on Saturday, a blessing came by way of a phone call from his insurance company.  He has workman’s comp, which he just recently got, and we found out that it will cover everything, and that it also will pay him for the days he’s off work!  Praise the Lord!  Being as he can’t drive, we just don’t know when he’ll be able to work on that ankle again, but, we’ll know more on Wednesday.  In the meantime, could you also pray about the ‘cabin fever’ he seems to be going through!  Like I said in the last post … he’s not one for being down for very long.  He’s putting the time to good use, even though it is hard, at times, to be lying around all day!  He’s sure learning more about how to ’wait’, and to …

“Be still (to be weak – to let go – to release – to surrender) … and know that I am God!”  Psalm 46:10

*Right where God wants us all to be!

Praying you all have a wonderful week … I’ll post again when I know more about his ankle, but, in the meantime, I’ve just got to do some visiting around here, catching up with all of you, seeing what prayer requests you might have, and seeing how your Christmas was!  Thank you all, again, first, for bearing with me through this long post, and second, for your thoughts and prayers for my dear husband!  I’ll leave you with a video, if you have just a few more minutes … to be still … and know … that He IS God … and that this will bring comfort to you, in whatever trial, or circumstance, you might be going through right now!

  • Oh, Deborah ~ Sometimes it really does seem that when it rains it pours, as the saying goes. It doesn’t seem as thought it was that long since I’d caught up with you, & I was so shocked to find out that you already have had another difficult thing come into your lives. I am so sure that God is going to bless you much through all of this, since both of you have such a precious heart for God! Although it isn’t easy, it is during such times of difficulty, and waiting upon our God that He can teach us some of His most precious lessons. I am praying for you, even as you requested. I am also praying this prayer for you and Lewis, & Ian that I posted on my blog for the New Year: My prayer for you is the same as it is for me: That we would each have a deeper,  growing, intimate  relationship  with our Lord Jesus Christ than where we are each day before. Blessiings dear Deborah and family ~ Carolyn __ Oh, and I love that song ~ it is Steve Green isn’t it? It sure sounds like him. Thank you for sharing it with the lyrics.

  • I will keep praying for healing for Lewis and patience for you too, and safety for Ian out here in CA….hoping you all get to be together soon.

  • Hi Deborah, We have been gone, but are now home so I am trying to catch up on everyone. I am so sorry to hear that your hubby broke his ankle. :( I know how that is as that happened to my hubby too, years ago! We still had kids at home. God was so good to us as he healed quickly. So Praying for a speedy recovery for your hubby too!!! It is wonderful to know He is there to pick us up and comfort us. Just like if your child gets hurt, you are always there for them too.  Hugs and Prayers!:heartbeat:

  • It is so good to know that in all things, God’s grace is sufficient. I love being able to get together with my Christian friends and with my family, who belong to the Lord too! Isn’t that rich?

    Have a good year!

  • I hope he’ll continue to feel better and get around better too!  Hope your new years can be a relaxing time for you both to rest.  Take care.  :sunny:

  • I love your words be still and know I am God. I pray God blesses you for all of your prayers and friendship for my wife I would be like your husband too, I would have to get out of the house even with a broken ankle Cant keep us down.:fun:

  • I just kept smiling to myself as I read your post. You and your hubby are obviously in the midst of a time of testing and growing; and it was delightful to “hear” you express your faith in God’s plan and timing.

Sometimes it’s these things that can really stretch us beyond our comfort zone; and it’s easy to be bitter about them. What a breath of fresh air to see you humbly submitting yourselves to the Heavenly Father.

Praying for your hubby’s complete healing,
    Alesha

  • That is one of my favorite songs.  (I have a lot of favorites.) Thank you for sharing it.  I will continue to pray for the healing of your hubby’s ankle and for the upcoming visit. Lish

  • :sunny:Good Morning Sweet Deborah and Lew, too! I remember when my Dear Hubby broke his ankle across the tibulah! Yes, Lew keep it elevated and do what the Doc says! Jerry’s turn black down the one side of his leg and across the top of his foot, scared me!………But it healed and no surgery was done. PTL!……….I”m praying for healing on you, Lew and I pray for strength for both of you.I just finished the book called,”The Shack,” a must read for any Christian. It is fiction but is based on a true story! It really makes you question your knowledge of what you think of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. That is all I will tell you. I don’t want to give anything away. It was given to my Hubby by a teacher at the school he works at, to pass on to me. At first I question what I was reading but as I got further in it, I am still thinking about it. Be prepared to cry, it is Very deep! Now My Hubby is going to read it and I think I am going to pass it on to our Pastor! He hasn’t read it yet. So while you are down, here is a book suggestion!……..Glad you both heard from Ian. Hope that he is able to come home for a visit soon. I wish Philip would decide to come home, too. But it is a costly flight from Germany and a long one, too, 14 hours! Hope you both just enjoy your time together and know that you are blessed to have each other and the Lord…………Hope you have a Wonderful Day and know that I am praying for you both!………In Christ’s Love…….Monic:heartbeat::love::heartbeat::wave:

  • I am glad you did get to have some good times and fellowship for the holidays. I can only imagine how hard it must be for Lewis to rest! I understand cabin fever! Maybe you can get some of the men or families from your church to take turns dropping by whenever they can to visit for a bit. I know the times when I have been recuperating from surgery, you miss PEOPLE! It’s tricky, because you don’t need them to come and stay a long time, but you need things to look forward to each day so they don’t drag. Glad to hear Ian got plenty of invitations for Christmas. I do hope you will see him soon. ~~ Abby got her visa, so she will be back in N. Ireland soon, and maybe they will make a trip over at some point. I do talk to them on the phone. ~~ Yesterday Hannah sent us pictures of her tummy! It is such a funny feeling to think of my baby girl having a baby! LOL!~~ We did have a great Christmas, although my camera was on the wrong setting for some reason, and most of my pictures didn’t turn out. I was sad about that. ~~ We have been celebrating TOO MUCH, and my jeans are tight. It’s time to scale back –WAY back! LOL! ~~ I have missed you! I want to keep writing, but I have a date in the laundry room in just short while, and I haven’t got all the stuff together and sorted yet. Love and prayers to you and Lewis! :heartbeat:

quote and verse

Faith expects from God what is beyond all expectation.
- Andrew Murray -

God often comes to us,
not in dramatic and the spectacular,
but in quiet, unexpected ways ...
In a still, small voice,
a gentle whisper,
God makes known His love.

In quietness and trust
is your strength.
Isaiah 30:15

Pleasure, possessions, power, and privilege are ultimately worthless in comparison to the indescribable
joy of knowing GOD!!

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him,
and He shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5,6

I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go:
I will guide thee with mine eye.
